Certainty

Shaar Habitachon: The main thing—as a result of which the trusting person will trust is that he is certain that [G-d] upon whom he is relying will follow through on that which he said and do what he promised to do.  (Shaar Habitachon, ch. 1)

Story: The Baal Shem Tov was once in need of some money. He went to the home of a wealthy person in his town, knocked on the man’s window and immediately turned around left, before the homeowner could answer. Seeing that it was the Baal Shem Tov, the wealthy person chased after the Baal Shem Tov, asked him what he needed, and brought him all that he asked.

The person then asked the Baal Shem Tov: “If you needed my help so much, why did you knock and leave right away?”

The Baal Shem Tov answered: “In truth, sustenance comes from Hashem. However, there is a verse (a posuk) in the Torah that says: ‘and hashem will bless you in all that you do.’ Meaning, that a person also has to work for something. So, I just needed to do my part by coming to knock. Once I did my part, I was sure that Hashem will now take care of me. So I left and went to do more important things then wait.”

(Sichos Kodesh, Parshas Devarim, 5734)
